All-Island Digital Atlas Available to Support Evidence-Based Planning in the Irish Border Region

The All-Island Research Observatory (AIRO) and ICLRD have collaborated in the development of an All-Island Digital Atlas utilising data from the 2011 censuses in Northern Ireland and Ireland. The Atlas is a user-friendly online mapping tool containing datasets on Population, Religion, Place of Birth, Ethnic Group, Housing Type and Tenure, Labour Force, Industry, Occupation, Transport and the General Health of the population of the island. It will assist policy makers, council officials, elected representatives to formulate evidence-based policies, and will support and sustain cross-border cooperation on the island of Ireland. The Atlas is available to search here.

The All-Island Atlas was developed under the Evidence-Based Planning theme of the Cross-Border Spatial Planning and Training Network (CroSPlaN II) programme managed by the International Centre for Local and Regional Development (ICLRD), funded by the Special EU Programmes Body under EU INTERREG IVA.

A hard-copy Atlas, containing maps, analysis and commentary of the key trends emanating from the census data, will be launched at the ICLRD/CCBS conference in January 2015.
