Inter-Municipal and Cross-Border Collaboration in Spain and Portugal – rural tourism, greenways and enhanced emergency services
The first Shared Services Learning Network seminar took place on Wednesday 9th July at the Four Seasons Hotel, Monaghan. The seminar, which was attended by representatives from a diverse range of organisations engaged in cross-border cooperation, was addressed by Dr Brendan O’Keeffe, Mary Immaculate College, who shared his knowledge and insights concerning collaboration on shared services in Spain and Portugal. The presentation stimulated a lengthy discussion and Q&A session focused in particular on the specifics of the cases referred to and the mechanisms available to coordinate and finance such cross-border cooperation. Follow these links to download the introductory slides to the seminar and Brendan O’Keeffe’s presentation.
The seminar was preceded by a walk along a completed section of the Ulster Canal Greenway in Monaghan town, led by Carol Lambe of Monaghan County Council, who explained the history of the project and set out the envisaged next steps. Further information on the Ulster Canal Greenway can be found on Monaghan County Council’s website.
This seminar forms part of the Cross-Border Spatial Planning and Training Network (CroSPlaN II) programme managed by the International Centre for Local and Regional Development (ICLRD), funded by the Special EU Programme Body under EU INTERREG IVA. A further Shared Services Learning Network seminar will take place in October 2014.
