Shared Services on the Island of Ireland: Departmental perspectives on prospects for enhanced shared services across local government
The second ICLRD Shared Services Learning Network seminar took place on Thursday 16th October at the Armagh City Hotel. The seminar was addressed by David O’Connor (Senior Responsible Officer, Local Government Efficiency Review, Programme Management Office), who set out the context and progress in Ireland of the Local Government Efficiency Programme 2012–2014. Lorcan O’Kane, deputising for Ian Maye (Deputy Secretary, Local Government, Road Safety & Corporate Services Group, Department of the Environment), then set out the background to ongoing local government reform in Northern Ireland and introduced several aspects of the programme relating to the shared services agenda. The potential for a greater cross-border focus on shared services between local authorities was considered during the lively Q&A and open forum session at the end of the seminar. A further Shared Services Learning Network seminar will take place on 25 November 2014.
