Briefing Paper 10: Biomass Resources in the Island of Ireland

Title: Biomass Resources in the Island of Ireland
Publication Date: September 2012
Team: Michael Doran
Funding: CroSPlaN Initiative, an INTERREG IVA funded-project which is being administered by the SEUPB.
Summary: The objective of this paper is to analyse the biomass resource on the island of Ireland and see how it can contribute to our energy supply in the future. The paper mentions, but is not focused on the debate between crops for food production being in competition with crops for energy. Although Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland have a similar climate, and an analogous agricultural system, both Governments have different biomass policies and energy targets, and hence the paper considers the territories separately.
