The ICLRD provides technical assistance to local government agencies and communities often in conjunction with its applied research or training activities. Three recent examples include:
- Assisting Newry and Mourne District Council and the Louth Local Authorities to draft and adopt a cross-border Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to cooperate in: emergency planning, renewable energy and green technology, tourism and recreation, sustainable economic growth and job creation. This MOU is seen as a best practice by EU officials interested in cross-border cooperation.
- Advising the development associations in the Monaghan/Tyrone Border area (Truagh, Aughnacloy, Aghaloo, The Bawn, Loughans, Clara and Carrickroe) in jointly working together to draft a community business and social economy plan. This is the first time that these neighbouring associations have formally worked together. Through this technical assistance, LEADER funding has been secured which allowed this cross-border community to hire a consultant to develop such a plan.
- Assistance is also being provided to the local councils in NW Region and the newly formed NW Partnership Board to facilitate cross-border engagement at a strategic level.
