This website is maintained by the international Centre for Local and Regional Development (ICLRD).  The ICLRD fully respects your right to privacy.  We collect information about you only if you voluntarily submit the information to us for purposes such as (i) receiving updates, (ii) attending conferences, workshops, seminars, (iii) participating in training programmes, and (iv) completing surveys.  Data is collected strictly in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), effective from 25 May 2018. Your data will only be shared, if necessary, in accordance with the law and where you have given consent.

The International Centre for Local and Regional Development values the privacy of visitors to our website, and individuals whose personal information we receive through the use of form submissions and other related services.This privacy policy relates to your use of the ICLRD website: www.iclrd.org

What is “personal data”?

Personal data relating to an identifiable, living individual.  It means data relating to a person who is or can be identified either from the data itself or in conjunction with other information that is in, or is likely to come into, the possession of the ICLRD.

The data we collect about you is:

  • Your first and last name
  • Your job title and employer’s details (name, address)
  • Your email address.

The ICLRD will not intentionally collect or maintain any sensitive data.  We do not want you to provide any information regarding ethnic origin, religious beliefs, trade union membership, genetic data, health data, sexual orientation and biometric data.  

We obtain your personal data from forms on our website or other electronic tools we use in our operations – for example, Surveymonkey and Eventbrite.

Lawful basis for processing data

The ICLRD will apply the following conditions for processing as appropriate:

  • Consent – the individual has given consent to the processing for one or more specific purposes.
  • Necessary for performance of a contract / delivery of a service – the processing is necessary for the performance of a contract with the individual.
  • Legal obligation – the processing is necessary for compliance with a legal obligation to which the data controller is subject.
  • Vital interests – The processing is necessary in order to protect the vital interests of the individual. This is typically limited to processing needed for medical emergencies.

Use of Personal Data

We use the data provided by you to:

  • Communicate with you regarding upcoming events, new publications, and other activities that may be of interest to you
  • Communicate with you regarding training programmes  and/or other opportunities we believe may be of interest to you
  • Enhance our community by conducting surveys.

All communications will be via email.

Data Controller

A ’data controller’ means a person or body who, wither alone or with others, controls the content and use of personal data.

The data controller for the ICLRD is the ICLRD Executive Board

Transfer of data outside the EU

All countries within the European Economic Area have similar standards of legal protection for your personal data.  Where your data is stored on third party data centres, or managed by third party agencies on behalf of the ICLRD, outside of the European Economic Area, we will take steps to ensure that adequate levels of protection are applied to your information.

The ICLRD website is currently hosted in the United States, and we may use service providers in the United States and elsewhere to process personal information on our behalf. If you use the ICLRD Website outside the U.S., your personal data may be transferred outside of your home jurisdiction to the United States and to other jurisdictions where our affiliates and service providers are located. Some of these jurisdictions, including the United States, do not have equivalent data protection laws as the European Union and other jurisdictions

Accessing your personal data

Under data protection laws, you have a right to:

  • Request a copy of your information
  • Ask us to make any changes to ensure that your data is up to date and accurate
  • Ask that we delete your information if we do not have a good cause to retain it
  • Otherwise object to the way in which we use your information.

Disclosure of Collected Information

We do not sell or rent email addresses and other personal information that we collect directly through the ICLRD Website.  However, any information that you voluntarily choose to display on any publicly available portion of the ICLRD Website, or on any Service, becomes publicly available and may be collected and used by us or others without restriction. We share your information, including personal information, as follows:

ICLRD Service Providers

We may provide personal information to third parties for their use in performing internal business functions (e.g., maintenance, security, data analysis, email transmission, CRM, database management services, email marketing, surveys, or data hosting) on our behalf. We will require such third parties to agree to only use your personal information in accordance with this Privacy Policy, and for no other purpose than to provide us with necessary services.

Legal Requirements

We may disclose personal information if we have a good-faith belief that doing so is required by a subpoena or other judicial or administrative order or otherwise required by law. Additionally, we may disclose personal information where we, in good faith, deem it appropriate or necessary to prevent violation of the ICLRD Terms of Service, or other agreements.

Opting out of communications

You may withdraw your consent to our use of your information at any time by emailing the Data Protection officer, Philip Doherty, at: pj.doherty@ulster.ac.uk– clearly noting ‘ICLRD Data’ in your subject line.

This website may contain links to other websites.  The ICLRD is not responsible for those sites or for the privacy statements of other websites.

Status of Privacy Notice and Updates

This privacy notice is non-contractual.  We reserve the right to amend it from time to time. Amendments will be posted to the website and, where appropriate, through email notification.  Unless otherwise stated, all such changes will take effect immediately upon posting to the website.

No change to this privacy notice will change the nature or content of the consent that you have granted.
