The International Centre for Local and Regional Development (ICLRD) is one of three cross-border agencies invited to sit on the Planning Advisory Forum which was been established by the Department of Housing Local Government and Heritage to inform the first revision of the National Planning Framework (NPF). The Forum is chaired by the Minister for State with responsibility for Planning and Local Government, Kieran O’Donnell, held its first meeting on 6th July 2023 and is expected to meet every six weeks over the coming months.
The role of the Planning Advisory Forum is to:
- Provide advice on the strategic direction of the first revision to the NPF, considering issues in a national context;
- Provide a platform in which to develop, test, review and refine policy proposals which will inform the revision of the NPF and expected outcomes;
- Make recommendations and provide feedback to assist in shaping the preparation, content and implementation of the revision of the NPF;
- Utilise expertise, resources and relationships of representatives and to provide data and material, where relevant, to inform the revision of the NPF; and
- Assist and advise on alignment and linkages with other relevant initiatives/sectors.
The ICLRD will be represented on the Planning Advisory Forum by its Chair, Ms. Mary MacIntyre OBE.
