ICLRD’s 20th Anniversary Conference will explore how integrated spatial planning
can drive a more sustainable and resilient future.

Facing shared contemporary
challenges and possibilities, it will focus on how we can better align policy and
practice to achieve net zero and accelerate the delivery of critical infrastructure while
also responding to regional priorities. Bringing together policymakers, planners,
academia and community voices from across the island of Ireland, this interactive
conference will focus on:
 Planning for an integrated approach to strategic spatial planning: the building
blocks;
 Delivering strategic infrastructure for the 21st Century: what’s needed, when
and how; and
 Planning for net zero: taking a place-based approach.

These themes are explored against the backdrop of a spatial planning system in
transition in both jurisdictions, and the implications of this for policy
alignment/divergence and strengthened cohesion. Looking ahead, this event will
champion innovation, collaboration and long-term thinking to enable balanced
development and thriving communities across the island of Ireland.
